Is your kid curious about railroad signs and signals? Luckily, there is tons of information out there about this topic.
The Northeast Operating Rules Advisory Committee (NORAC) sets out the operating rules for our railroads. Their rule book defines the official signals for railroad operators throughout North America.
The below illustration of the NORAC signal rules is available via the Northeastern Railroad website. Click on the illustration for a closer view.
If your rail kid really wants to go deep with this stuff, you can also download the NORAC rule book as a PDF, including a complete list of signal aspects. Even better, the website SignalDepartment.com has detailed explanations and great photos of many signs and signals. Happy rails!
